Ecological and digital transition: the challenge of jobs and skills

On April 9th, UFE and its partners organised, under the High Patronage of Minister of Labour Muriel Pénicaud, and in the presence of Secretary of State for Ecological and Solidarity Transition Emmanuelle Wargon and Jean-Marie Marx, High Commissioner for Skills and Inclusion through Employment, a Conference on the occasion of the official signing of the Forward Studies Contract, EDEC for the electricity sector.

Employment and skills are a key condition among others, for successful ecological and digital transitions. Many professions are evolving, new jobs will be created, professional mobility will have to be organised. Since all these evolutions must be anticipated and worked on in a collective and transversal way, UFE has joined forces with FFIE, FIEEC, Ignes, Gimélec, Serce, Think SmartGrids and Industries Méditerranée to conduct a vast study within the electricity sector. On April 9th, the Conference “Ecological and digital transitions: when success also depends on jobs and skills!”, organized in partnership with the Arts et Métiers and the CNAM, was the opportunity to officially sign the Forward Studies Contract, EDEC of the electrical sector.

An issue shared by all

Carried out under the aegis of the Ministries of Labour and with the support of the Ministry of Ecological Transition, this study will bring together, around common issues, the main players in the electricity sector: professional federations, large companies as well as SMEs, trade unions, associations, other partner professional sectors, local authorities’ representatives and qualified personalities.

Under the sign of pragmatism

This approach aims to:
– Carry out a socio-economic diagnosis of jobs and skills in the electricity sector, in the short and medium term, in line with the projections of the Multiannual Energy Framework;
– Propose a mapping of new jobs, ones that are likely to evolve, identify gateways and better support career paths;
Make these tools available and share them with public authorities, institutions working on employment and educational actors, be it for initial and continuing training.

This work will be complemented by that of the Strategic Committee of the “Industries of new energy systems” within the National Industry Council.

On April 9, the conference to launch the initiative was organized around 2 round tables: debates rich in exchanges between business owners, young employees and students around the expectations and needs of everyone, as well as the challenges related to the energy, ecological and digital transformation of our society.
